Happy new year from the E-BoP team! With the Winter break now behind us, we are happy to announce our next event. On 7 March (9AM – noon-ish, Paris time) we will host a seminar on “(Temporary) Labour Migration and Agriculture Work in the EU”. It will be held in Strasbourg at the Law Faculty (details in the pdf below if you’re close enough to join us!) but it will also be streamed on Zoom (again, details and registration below). For the seminar, we are thrilled to have Kamil Matuszczyk (CMR – University of Warsaw), Minna Seikkula (University of Tampere), and Andrea Iossa (University of Kristianstad) as confirmed speakers, who will be joined by our very own Audrey Deverson and Justyna Hejman-Mancewicz to complete the panel. The seminar will also be opened with a speech by Fabiola Mieres (ILO) and closed by our PI Marco Rocca.
The seminar will cover the legal construction of temporary labour migration in a selection of EU Member States, and focus on examining the role of spatiotemporal elements (shifting borders, temporariness, labour market needs…) in this context. The qualitative and quantitative insights featured in our panel will allow for a critical assessment of the concepts and fictions underpinning said legal construction, which fundamentally contribute to the precarisation of the workforce in the agricultural sector.
